Makers Market Director

Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week (VIFW) is seeking a passionate and experienced Makers Market Director to lead the planning, promotion, and execution of the Makers Market – a vibrant hub showcasing Indigenous artists, designers, and makers.

This is a unique opportunity to work alongside a dynamic team committed to cultural celebration and community empowerment. The Makers Market is a vital part of VIFW, offering a powerful platform for Indigenous creatives to share their stories and sell their work.

Key Responsibilities

Market Coordination & Logistics

  • Develop and manage the full schedule for the Makers Market, including layout planning, setup, and breakdown.

  • Oversee on-site logistics, booth assignments, vendor check-ins, and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

  • Ensure the Makers Market is welcoming, professional, and organized, from opening to closing.

Vendor Relations

  • Serve as the primary contact for all participating artists and vendors.

  • Maintain clear communication throughout all phases of the event.

  • Support vendors with everything they need for a successful and smooth experience.

  • Collaborate with the Designer Coordinator for designers showcasing their work in the market.

Marketing & Promotion

  • Work closely with the VIFW marketing team to highlight the Makers Market and the artists involved.

  • Develop a marketing plan that promotes each artist's story and products through social media, interviews, behind-the-scenes content, and spotlights.

  • Contribute to broader VIFW marketing initiatives while keeping a focused lens on the Makers Market.

Social Media Engagement

  • Collaborate on social media campaigns to generate buzz in the lead-up to the event.

  • Create or coordinate engaging posts that celebrate individual artists and build excitement.

Wayfinding & Signage

  • Design and coordinate signage that guides guests through the venue and elevates the market experience.

  • Ensure clear, accessible, and culturally respectful wayfinding for all attendees.

Post-Event Engagement

  • Collect feedback from vendors and artists to evaluate success and areas for growth.

  • Help extend artist visibility beyond the event by connecting them to new opportunities or collaborators.

Who You Are

  • Experienced in event coordination, with a strong understanding of vendor management and logistical execution.

  • Skilled in marketing and content creation, especially for social media platforms.

  • A creative thinker with a sharp eye for visual presentation, signage, and booth layout.

  • Culturally aware and passionate about uplifting Indigenous voices through storytelling and entrepreneurship.

  • A collaborative communicator who thrives in a team environment and brings proactive energy.

  • Detail-oriented, organized, and ready to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Reporting Structure

You will report directly to the General Manager of VIFW and collaborate with our event production team, designers, and venue staff to bring the Makers Market to life.
